The maternity services care for the health of the mother, the new-born child, and the family, as well as support the preparation for changes brought on by the birth of a child.
During the pregnancy, the expecting mother visits the nurse and doctor. She may also receive a referral to participate in ultrasounds and prenatal screenings at the Lapland Central Hospital. The spouse is always welcome to join the visits.
The aim of the services is to safeguard the health and wellbeing of the pregnant woman and the foetus.
